  Zimmerhanzel's has a reputation for their sausage, and for selling out on Saturdays, so plan for an early stops. The brisket, spareribs, and sausage were all very good, with the standout for us being their all-beef sausage. It was still packed with enough fat to stay juicy, and a really good spice balance that paired well with the beef. One of the best all-beef sausages in the state, so good we picked up a few extra to take home.

  Smoked Beef sausage is fantastic. Some flavor, got some kick and skin crunchy. Not too fatty or greasy like many kielbasa. Moist brisket had good smoke ring and moist. Cole slaw creamy and crunchy. Nothing to complain about. What's even better is the cost. When many charge $20/lb, they are $14/lb. for brisket and damn good one at that. No sauce required.

  Legit barbecue that holds its own when compared with the Lockhart triad or the best of Austin. No frills set up with a simple, affordable menu. Sausage was incredible; better than can be had in nearby Elgin, in my opinion. Brisket had a good smoke ring and crust. Maybe a little salty, but damn good. People are super friendly. It's worth the drive from Austin or other surrounding areas.

  Zimmerhanzel's is, to me, the definition of Americana. A small roadside style diner with friendly staff and BBQ that came right out of their own family history. Small non-chain businesses that treat everyone that comes through the door like this are a genuine delight and should be visited as often as possible.
